Academic Publishing Workshop Series

Workshop Schedule and Details
Book Proposal Writing Workshop
Acquisition editors at academic presses receive many book proposals from authors and arrive at decisions of whether to pursue book projects on the basis of a very quick reading of these proposals. Thus writing a compelling proposal is pivotal to getting one’s book published. In this hands-on workshop, we will work on authors’ social science proposal drafts in a collegial and supportive atmosphere to help each other approach acquisition editors in the most effective way.
| Date: March 14 (Sat), 9:00–16:00
| Registration deadline: Feb 12
| Location: Humanities Building B106, National Taiwan University
| Additional requirement: Participants must submit a draft book proposal by March 1, which will be used as working material during the workshop.
Journal Article Writing Workshop
Submitting article manuscripts to major journals is a process shrouded in mystery, which early-career scholars find daunting, particularly given the language and epistemological hegemony of English. This workshop aims to dispel some of this mystery. It focuses on how to choose an appropriate international journal for one’s work, how to develop an abstract, and how to avoid common pitfalls in motivating one’s work and presenting its contribution to broad anthropological questions.
| Date: March 15 (Sun), 9:00–12:00
| Registration deadline: Feb 26
| Location: Humanities Building B106, National Taiwan University
