The Department of East Asian Studies at the University of Cambridge invites applications for a 3-year Post-Doctoral Fellow in Taiwan Studies from any relevant field of expertise or experience who are best able to contribute to expanding our research and teaching coverage to include the history, society and culture of Taiwan. The successful candidate will conduct research, publish, and contribute some teaching and administrative support. The successful candidate will be part of the Chinese Studies subject group while also expected to interact more widely with other colleagues in the Department, Faculty and University. This position is tenable for three years. The successful candidate is expected to begin the Fellowship on 1 October, 2021. The salary is commensurate with experience and is set at £32,816 - £40,322 with annual increments. Once appointed, the Department will assist the candidate to seek a college affiliation.
We welcome applicants from all relevant fields, though preference will be given to those in the following fields: history (pre-modern and/or modern); anthropology; religion; art history; cultural studies; sociology; ethnomusicology; and literature.
Key activities associated with the Fellowship in Taiwan Studies include:
- Independent and collaborative research to be published as articles, books, and other more innovative forms of outputs;
- Organising Taiwan-themed seminars and outreach activities (such as film festivals);
- Teaching one or two courses (called 'papers' at Cambridge) on the Fellow's specialised area and contributing sessions to team-taught courses;
- Participation in Department-wide activities, both internally and through contributions to our outreach and engagement efforts;
- Development of collaborations with other institutions relating to Taiwan Studies in the UK and internationally.
Applicants must have:
- A PhD in a relevant field (PhD in hand or thesis approved at point of application);
- Evidence of strong research and teaching skills;
- Ability to work independently as well as in collaborative environments, and the ability to engage with diverse audiences;
- Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills (including proficiency in English and Chinese);
Fixed term: Funding for this Fellowship is available until 30 September, 2024.
